IIT Department of Facilities Maintenance Management to become FAMIS on 8/4/08.

On August 4, 2008, the Facilities Department at IIT will launch the Maintenance and Inventory Management Modules from the FAMIS suite of web-based software. FAMIS (Facilities Asset Management Information System) is designed for use by facilities management experts, enabling the entire facilities life-cycle—from real estate acquisitions to operations, maintenance, facilities management, project management, space management and performance metrics—to be handled by a single suite of standards-based, web-architected software. FAMIS is closely integrated with BANNER and the FAMIS team has worked closely with the Banner Integration team and other teams to implement the modules. The FAMIS suite of software consists of 11 modules, two of which (Space Management and Capital Projects) were implemented in June 2008.

The Maintenance and Inventory Management Modules will enhance facilities management at IIT in the following ways:

1)      Customers can make service requests through the FAMIS Facilities channel on the myIIT WORK tab.

2)      Customers will be able to get work order information such as status, cost and work done to-date simply by checking online.

3)      Customers can also receive email updates as the status of their work order changes.

4)      Bar-coded inventory, daily labor entries and other streamlined procedures give customers real-time billing.

5)      Work order processing life-cycle will be stream-lined from service request creation to billing.

6)      The system will integrate with IIT’s current Enterprise Resource Planning system — SCT Banner.

7)      More efficient inventory control will decrease costs and decrease part/equipment lead times.

8)      Improved Reporting and data will help improve preventative maintenance and decrease equipment repair costs and downtime.
